Handling and Packing Pokémon Cards

Protect cards during handling and preparation for shipping, with a practical checklist and official submission guidance.

Handling and Packing Pokémon Cards

Prepare a clear workspace

As a practical handling routine, use a clean, uncluttered surface and keep food and drinks away. Make room for the card and its holder before removing it from a binder or storage box. Handle one card at a time so it is easier to keep its identity and packing materials together.

Use a sleeve before a submission holder

PSA’s shipping guide instructs submitters to put each card in a clear penny sleeve and then a semi-rigid holder. The guide asks for both sides to remain visible. Follow the receiving company’s instructions for your particular submission; requirements are not interchangeable between services.

If a card does not slide into a holder comfortably, stop and review the holder size and insertion method. Pressure on the card is not a shortcut. Keep labels and adhesive away from the card itself.

Protect the cards inside the parcel

PSA’s guide describes supporting the prepared cards with cardboard and securing the group before packing it in a cushioned shipping box. The goal is to limit movement without applying excessive pressure. Read the complete guide before mailing a submission.

For your own records, note which cards you are packing and take clear photographs before sealing the parcel. Keep the submission or order details separately so the card identity is not lost when the package is opened.

Review the current recipient instructions

This is a preparation checklist, not a replacement for a carrier or grading service’s current packing rules. Check the destination instructions again when you are ready to send. Card Atlas can help you find a matching card page, but it does not arrange shipping or professional grading.
