Battle Basics

A damaging move normally receives a 1.5× same-type attack bonus (STAB) when its type matches one of the user’s types. Type effectiveness is then applied separately. For dual-type defenders, multiply the effectiveness against each type; this can produce 4× or ¼× damage.

These pages describe the main-series games. Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game use different battle rules.
